Video Games
Since 2018, I've been making games for weekend-long game jams. I have been the project/art/writing lead for all of those mentioned here. Games are my favorite types of interactive media as a consumer, and I've enjoyed making them as an artist/dev who loves digital media and story-telling.
Lucky Little Darlings
created for LDJAM #55
LLD is a hidden object game with mostly narrative elements, focusing on a trio of siblings that have magical capabilities. They run an online shop of retro/vintage items that are cloned with magic, but it isn't bringing in enough money, so they decide to summon lovable creatures to make a business with them that will capture the adoration of the masses(because they are so cute and cute sells).

The theme of this game jam was "summoning", and truthfully, I did not think I would be participating in another game jame, especially in my last semester of university when things were so busy. However, this theme seemed too exciting, and I came back from my game jam break to make one more as a student. I had already been drawing illustrations of the central characters in the game, and I saw this as an opportunity to make something entirely new, and to take a break from the web development work. This was also my first time collaborating with another artist, and she was a great help for the hidden level room.
Her Bedtime Stories
created for LDJAM #48
Sensitive Content Warning:
Her Bedtime Stories is a visual novel about a recovering victim of assault who is stuck in a loop of negative memories and interpretations. Her Bedtime Stories tells the story of giving in to thoughts related to trauma, through the visual device of a platform that is constantly sinking deeper into a mine. Your role is to observe and help when you can.

The theme of this game jam was "deeper and deeper", and my interpretation of that was that it may become harder to get out of a hole the deeper you are, mentally. However, I did want this game to end positively, and I included a reminder to keep those close to you around for support and strength during hard times. My creative process involved thinking about situations that are grounded in reality, that people may have gone through, or know of someone else going through them. As well as that, I thought about more abstract ways of expressing pain that could be striking and cutting in a way that gets players to think deeper about their actions.
